    Natalie Sawyer

Natalie Sawyer is a British television and radio presenter known for her long career in sports broadcasting. She became one of the most familiar faces on Sky Sports News before moving to talkSPORT, where she has hosted football programmes, live matches and sporting events.

Her full legal name is Natalie Lorraine Sawyer. She was born on 23 October 1979 in Ealing, West London, and is 46 years old as of August 2026. Her calm delivery, football knowledge and ability to manage fast-moving broadcasts have helped her build a respected place in British sports media.

Natalie Sawyer’s Early Life and Education

Sawyer grew up in West London. Her father is English, while her mother has Bulgarian heritage. She has kept the names and occupations of her parents away from media attention, and dependable details about any siblings are unavailable.

She attended Chiswick Community School before studying History and Media at Leeds Trinity University. During her degree, she completed work experience with Sky Sports in the rugby union department. The placement gave her an early understanding of television production and newsroom routines. After university, she worked as a traffic and travel presenter for TeamTalk 252, a sports radio station.

    Natalie Sawyer and Soccer AM

In 2000, Natalie Sawyer appeared on Soccer AM as a Soccerette representing Brentford FC. She progressed through junior production work, patience and a clear understanding of sports broadcasting.

Natalie Sawyer’s Career at Sky Sports

Sawyer joined Sky Sports News in the early 2000s. She began as a runner and worked behind the scenes before becoming a presenter. Her early duties included preparing stories, updating the on-screen news ticker and supporting newsroom production. Her professional history gives 2003 as the beginning of her formal presenting role. She remained with Sky until March 2018.

    Becoming a Recognised Presenter

She gradually became one of the channel’s best-known broadcasters. Her work covered football news, Football League stories, transfers and major sporting events. She became closely linked with Transfer Deadline Day and often worked alongside Jim White. These long live programmes required accuracy, speed and composure as stories changed throughout the day.

Sawyer also anchored the 2015 EFL Trophy final at Wembley, which became an important career highlight. Her earlier production experience gave her a strong understanding of how live television works behind the camera.

Why Did Natalie Sawyer Leave Sky Sports?

Her final Sky Sports News programme aired on 28 March 2018. Her contract was not renewed after many years with the broadcaster. No detailed official reason was given beyond the end of the agreement. Claims that her departure followed a private dispute or a single incident have never been confirmed by a dependable source.

    Natalie Sawyer at talkSPORT

Natalie Sawyer joined talkSPORT in August 2018. Radio allowed her to develop a more conversational style and take part in football discussions. She presented Kick Off and later reunited with Jim White for White and Sawyer. The programme won Audio or Radio Show of the Year at the 2019 SJA British Sports Journalism Awards.

    Weekend Sports Breakfast

In September 2020, Sawyer became a presenter of Weekend Sports Breakfast alongside former footballer Tony Cascarino. She stayed with the programme for five years and hosted her final edition on 7 September 2025. Her departure from the breakfast show caused confusion, but she did not leave talkSPORT. She continued presenting other programmes and live football coverage.

    Her Current Broadcasting Work

In January 2026, she covered Macclesfield’s historic FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace. She interviewed the manager, goalscorers, club owner and Palace manager Oliver Glasner for talkSPORT. Her wider work has included coverage connected with Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup, Euro 2024, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the 2026 World Cup and the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. She remains a talkSPORT presenter as of August 2026.

    Podcasts and Event Hosting

After leaving Sky, Sawyer joined The Game, the football podcast produced by The Times, and worked with football journalist Gabriele Marcotti. She later became part of This Sporting Planet, which brings together broadcasters from different regions to discuss major sporting stories. Outside radio studios, she works as an events host, interviewer and moderator. Her work includes football functions, award ceremonies, charity events and corporate occasions.

    Natalie Sawyer and Brentford FC

Brentford FC has played an important role in Sawyer’s life. She has supported the club for many years and frequently speaks about its history, supporters and progress. Her connection has included hosting club events, joining supporter discussions and taking part in community projects. Brentford once used her image in a branded London bus campaign, showing how closely she had become connected with the club. She has also supported efforts encouraging women and girls to enter football and sports media.

    Natalie Sawyer’s Husband and Child

Natalie Sawyer was previously married to football commentator Sam Matterface. They worked within the same broadcasting industry and later divorced. Matterface is known for his work with ITV Sport and talkSPORT. He is her former husband, not her current spouse.

    Her Son, Sawyer Matterface

Natalie Sawyer has one child, a son named Sawyer Matterface. He was born on 28 October 2010. She confirmed his birthday in an Instagram tribute posted on 28 October 2025, when she celebrated 15 years of her son. She described him as caring, thoughtful and great fun. Motherhood has a central place in her social media identity. She shares selected family moments while keeping her son’s private life away from wider attention.

Who Is Natalie Sawyer’s Current Partner?

Former Brentford and Republic of Ireland footballer Jonathan Douglas was publicly documented as her partner from 2015. They attended football events together and later took part in Brentford media content. Neither Sawyer nor Douglas has recently confirmed whether the relationship continues. Douglas is best described as her last publicly documented partner, while Sam Matterface is her former husband.

    Business Interests

Sawyer became a director of That Little Guy Media Limited in May 2024. The active company works in television programme production. She has also served as a director of Peakaboo Entertainment Limited since June 2007. That company is in liquidation. This status does not mean she has left broadcasting, as her talkSPORT work and newer company remain active.

Social Media, Height and Net Worth

She uses Instagram under @nlsawyer and X under @nataliesawyer. Her biographies focus on motherhood, talkSPORT, Brentford and her work as a presenter and events host. Some entertainment sites give an estimated height, but no official source confirms an exact measurement. Her talkSPORT salary has not been disclosed, and precise net worth figures lack dependable financial evidence.

A Lasting Career in British Sports Media

Natalie Sawyer has spent more than two decades building a varied career across television, radio, podcasts and live events. She moved from junior newsroom duties to national broadcasting and successfully rebuilt her career after leaving Sky.

Her experience, football knowledge and natural presentation style continue to make her a trusted sports broadcaster. She remains active at talkSPORT, supports Brentford FC and balances her public career with motherhood and private family life.
